Electric car charging stations available for use on campus

Two electric car charging stations have been installed at the Texas Township Campus. The ChargePoint America Electric Vehicle charging stations will accommodate four vehicles and are located near the wind turbine at the southwest corner of the campus in the parking lot in front of the Advanced Technology Center.

Daniel Maley, Director of Facilities & Construction Management Services said the project has been in the works for about a year and was completed faster than anticipated because of unseasonably mild weather. Maley said the project expands the college’s commitment to sustainability. In addition to the car charging stations, efforts to reduce the campus’s carbon footprint have included a building-wide energy conservation program.

The Kalamazoo Valley charging stations are 2 of 35 in the Kalamazoo area. “Because of our location near I-94, I think we’re really going to be an interest point,” Maley said. “We’re excited about being able to offer this service. People have been asking for it.”

There are no fees for use, but a ChargePoint pass card is required. For more information, go to www.mychargepoint.net.
