Success after Incarceration is Focus of Dec. 17 Forum

The Student Success Center at Kalamazoo Valley Community College is partnering with Shared Prosperity Kalamazoo to sponsor a December 17 forum for ex-offenders, their families and friends. Shared Prosperity Kalamazoo is a community collaborative initiated by the Kalamazoo City Commission to promote increased access to well-paying jobs, strong and economically secure families, and healthy growth, development and learning for all of the community’s children.

The topic of the 7 p.m. forum is “Building a Successful Return Home: Supports & Challenges.” It will take place at Kalamazoo City Hall, 241 W. South Street, Kalamazoo.

A panel of lawyers, social workers, re-entry coordinators, higher education professionals, and employment counselors will talk about the community’s resources for those who’ve been formerly incarcerated.

Forum participants will be encouraged to share their stories and explain what challenges they’ve faced since leaving jail. Elected officials have been invited to come hear this important discussion.

Admission is free and open to the public. For more information, contact Jessica Amey at 269.373.7864 or jamey@kvcc.edu.
