Tuesday, Sept. 4 Marks the First Day of Class at Kalamazoo Valley

Tuesday, Sept. 4 is the first day of fall semester classes at Kalamazoo Valley Community College. “We are ready to welcome our fall semester students,” said President L. Marshall Washington, Ph.D. “The excitement continues to grow in anticipation of the return of students.”

Cougar Kickoff, the college’s official back-to-school celebration, runs Tuesday from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. at the Texas Township Campus and at Anna Whitten Hall in downtown Kalamazoo. There will be food and other giveaways and plenty of help with way-finding.

To avoid travel delays due to road construction, students are advised to seek an alternate route to the Texas Township Campus. The 9th Street bridge over I-94 near Kalamazoo Valley’s Texas Township Campus is under construction and the ramp to I-94 West is closed through Sept. 30.

There are single-lane closures over the bridge in each direction which can result in extended delays coming to and leaving from the college. Students should add extra time to their commuting schedule to and from class.

Kalamazoo Valley Community College offers certificate programs in more than 20 areas of study and associate degrees in more than 25 others. There are nine program of study pathways including Art & New Media; Business; Education, Human Service, Social Science; English. Humanities, Liberal Arts; Health Careers; Industrial Trades; Public Service; Science and Engineering; and Sustainable Food Systems. The college also provides student-placement services and works closely with other institutions to ensure the transfer of students' credits.
