Ketchup Day at the Culinary and Allied Health Building

To celebrate the half-way point of the semester, students and staff in the culinary arts program will participate in Ketchup Day on Oct. 24. The event includes seminars and a networking event.

Morning seminars for students will include:
American artisan cheeses with Chef Joel Boone
Chocolate desserts with Chef Cory Barrett
Food and wine pairings with Chef Brian Hay

From 12 to 2 p.m., students will have the opportunity to attend a networking event with food industry professionals.

“We want students to network with employers to learn about the different industries that hire culinary professionals,” said Mary McConnell, workforce coordinator at Kalamazoo Valley. “We have invited a diverse group of employers for students to be able to learn more about what opportunities there could be in fine dining, casual dining and institutions.”

Participating employers include: Bay Pointe Inn, Bronson Healthcare Group, Camzie’s Pizza, Creative Dining Services, Friendship Village, Greenleaf Hospitality Group, Gun Lake Casino, Millennium Restaurant Group, Senior Services Southwest and StoryPoint Portage.

Students should dress in chef whites, bring resumes and be prepared to network, McConnell said.

Millennium Restaurant Group is providing lunch for attendees.

Additionally, representatives from academic counseling, employment services, internships and financial aid will be available to meet with students from 12 – 3 p.m.
