December Art Hop Events at the Kalamazoo Valley Museum and Center for New Media

The Center for New Media and the Kalamazoo Valley Museum in downtown Kalamazoo host events and art exhibits during Art Hop each month. All Art Hop exhibits remain on display for the entire month. Opening night receptions run from 5:30 to 8:00 p.m.

The December 7 Art Hop event at the Kalamazoo Valley Museum is a 6 p.m. concert by the Kalamazoo Mandolin and Guitar Orchestra. The Kalamazoo Mandolin and Guitar Orchestra will present holiday music old and new, along with other traditional audience favorites. The Kalamazoo Mandolin and Guitar Orchestra is a plucked string ensemble consisting of mandolins, mandolas, mandocellos, guitars, and bass. The group was founded in 2003 to revive the mandolin orchestra tradition in Kalamazoo. Under the direction of conductor Matt Cosgrove, the orchestra enjoys performing a wide variety of music, including classical, ethnic, and “golden era” mandolin orchestra music.

During the December 7 Art Hop, the Center for New Media will host a New Media Showcase. The juried exhibition features artwork by CNM students, highlighting their artistry in the categories of graphic design, illustration, web design, animation, game art, and multi-media creations.
