Alumni+ Art Show Opens on April 5

The opening reception for Kalamazoo Valley’s Eighth Annual Alumni+ Art Show begins during Art Hop at 5:30 p.m. on Friday, April 5 at the Center for New Media in downtown Kalamazoo.

This juried art show enables Kalamazoo Valley alumni to showcase their works in a professional gallery setting. Works submitted will be considered for awards which will be presented to artists on the night of the show. Show judges are area professionals who come from a variety of disciplines and whose expertise enables them to deliver expert, but impartial, determinations. “We are very proud of our alumni,” said Center for New Media Director Tom Hamann. “Our judges have the wonderful opportunity of choosing winners from the outstanding works submitted. In the past, our judges have been impressed by the variety and quality of work.”

Previous show entries have come from alumni with a variety of backgrounds including law enforcement, accounting, and medical coding. This year’s exhibit will include 65 entries from 33 alumni artists who work in the genres of ceramics, carving, digital art, painting, video art, and more.

The art show is sponsored by Kalamazoo Valley's Alumni+ program, which was launched in April 2010 as a way for graduates, former students, and supporters of Kalamazoo Valley to stay connected to the college and each other.

Participation in the Alumni+ Art show has steadily increased. "I'm always impressed with the quality of artwork that our former students are creating," said Hamann. "It's exciting to see each year's submissions."

. The exhibit will remain on display through the end of April.
