Geology Instructor Veronica McCann to Talk at Rock and Mineral Show

Kalamazoo Valley Community College geology instructor Veronica McCann is presenting a 2 p.m. talk during the Kalamazoo Rock and Mineral Show at the Kalamazoo County Expo Center on Sunday, May 5.

“A rock is never just a rock to geologists,” McCann said. “There are an inherent beauty and story behind every rock. A rock is a word, sentence, or paragraph. Rocks are the ultimate storytellers. When a geologist interprets or ‘reads’ the rocks on the surface the story isn’t always complete, but the stories are as interesting as the thriller novel or origin story you can find on a bookshelf. Come hear and see how geologists use the clues hidden in the rocks to discover the history of our ever-changing planet.”

The Rock and Mineral Show is sponsored by the Kalamazoo Rock Club and runs from 4 to 8 p.m. on May 3, from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. on May 4, and from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. on May 5 at the Kalamazoo County Expo Center. In addition to informational sessions, there will be rocks, minerals, gems, jewelry, fossils and more for sale. Admission is $4 for adults and free for children under 12 who attend with a paying adult.
