Cougars Earn Post-Season Academic Honors

The following Kalamazoo Valley Community College student-athletes have earned National Junior College Athletic Association (NJCAA) Academic Awards for the 2018-19 school year:

First Team (4.00):

Grace Meachum, Women’s Basketball

Sophie Monroe, Softball

Rachel Pijaszek, Softball

Ariana Rowe, Softball

Second Team (3.80-3.99):

Lauren Chavis, Softball

Sara Egly, Volleyball

Nathan Myers, Baseball

Clayton Stapert, Men’s Basketball

Third Team (3.60-3.79):

Alex Babbitt, Baseball

Hannah Bronsterrer, Volleyball

Lukas Coker, Baseball

Nicolle Larson, Softball

Jacob Penny, Baseball

MaKenna Wilson, Women’s Basketball

Two Valley sports teams earned NJCAA Academic Team Awards for earning an overall team GPA of a 3.0 or higher. The Kalamazoo Valley baseball team, led by Coach Cody Piechocki, had a 3.06 GPA and the softball team, led by Coach Morgan VanderBor, earned a 3.30 GPA.

Additionally, 42 student-athletes received Michigan Community College Athletic Association (MCCAA) All-Academic Awards for 2018-19 for earning 3.0 or higher GPAs.

“It was another notable year for Kalamazoo Valley student-athlete academic performance,” said Athletic Director Russ Panico. “I am confident that next year our student athletes will continue to excel on the field and in the classroom.”
