Dr. Washington Receives Positive Marks and a Raise

During its regularly scheduled meeting on June 11, the Kalamazoo Valley Community College Board of Trustees awarded college President L. Marshall Washington, Ph.D., with an annual base salary percentage increase according to the college’s regular payroll practice of 1.5% beginning July 1, 2019 through June 30, 2020.

Washington was named the college’s third president on July 1, 2018. “We are very pleased with Dr. Washington’s first year,” said Board Chairperson Jeffrey W. Patton. “He hit the ground running and has met or exceeded all of our expectations. We are looking forward to his continued leadership including the implementation of the recently completed strategic plan.”

Washington said, “I am delighted to be working with all of the fine faculty and staff members at the college and I am grateful for the support of the Trustees as we work together to advance the college.”

Washington replaced long-time college president Dr. Marilyn Schlack who announced her retirement in the fall of 2017.
