Winter Semester Remote Course Completion Plans; April Commencement Moved to December with Virtual Event in April

March 31, 2020
Dear College Community,
As efforts to mitigate the impact of COVID-19 (Coronavirus) in the region and state continue, today I am announcing that online and remote learning for all Winter Semester 2020 instruction will continue through the end of the semester, April 27.

Commencement as we have experienced it in the past, scheduled for Sunday, April 26, will be postponed and combined with the Fall Semester 2020 ceremony in December. Graduating students may participate in a virtual celebration on April 26. As additional details become available, I will share them with you. All eligible graduates will receive their diplomas by mail in mid-May.

Kalamazoo Valley will begin Summer Semester 2020 on Monday, May 11. Virtual, tele-learning, online and alternate methods of instruction will be provided. Face-to-face instruction may be added as we move through the semester.

Faculty, staff and students will receive further information about these decisions in the coming days and weeks.

These unprecedented times require continued diligence and determination. Every day I hear inspiring stories about how teaching and learning are continuing in spite of the conditions in which we find ourselves. I am grateful for the continued leadership of our faculty and staff and for the resiliency of our students.

I wish you all patience and good health as we confront this crisis together. Stay home and stay safe.

Sincerely,
L. Marshall Washington, Ph.D.
President
