College Adopts Phased in Approach for Campus Building Reopening

Earlier this week, Kalamazoo Valley Community College announced a phased-in approach for adding on-campus labs and college business and instructional services to its current line-up of online and remote summer semester courses and student support services.

College buildings and facilities have been closed since mid-March to help protect the health and safety of students, staff and faculty members. While campus buildings remain closed to the public, the facilities services team has returned to work to complete deep and thorough cleaning and disinfecting of classrooms, restrooms, offices and public spaces, including labs on all campuses and the Kalamazoo Valley Museum. Members of the grounds and maintenance teams have returned to take care of the operational and exteriors of our buildings. Some labs associated with the health careers and professional trades have opened. In anticipation of further modification of Gov. Gretchen Whitmer’s “Stay Home, Stay Safe” Executive Order, additional face-to-face services will be available after June 15.

“As staff, faculty and students return to campus buildings, all are required to participate in a COVID-19 (Coronavirus) safety training session. During the training people learn about PPE, safe distancing and other measures to help prevent the transmission of disease at work and for students, at the college,” said President, L. Marshall Washington, Ph.D.

Kalamazoo Valley is planning to provide a mix of face-to-face and online courses during fall semester which will start on Tuesday, Sept. 8. More information about fall semester is available on the college website and at https://www.kvcc.edu/register.
