Kalamazoo Valley Nursing Students Assist with Covid-19 Vaccination Effort
Kalamazoo Valley Community College is collaborating with Bronson Hospital and Kalamazoo County Health and Community Services (KCHCS) to assist with COVID-19 (Coronavirus) vaccination clinics in Kalamazoo.
“The college’s nursing program has stepped up to do its part in serving the community,†said Director of Nursing Patrick Joswick. “Faculty members have gone above and beyond to help by filling clinical and non-clinical duties associated with the COVID-19 vaccination project.â€
During a recent week-long vaccination clinic at the Kalamazoo County Expo Center, Kalamazoo Valley nursing students helped to administer nearly 2,000 vaccinations per day. “We also have students working at the call center and at other clinics, vaccinating those associated with Mt. Zion Church on Robertson Street. This is a great learning opportunity for our students,†Joswick said.
Also, in collaboration with KCHCS, the college recently announced that it is providing an opportunity for employees to serve as volunteers with the vaccination effort. These efforts complement other college COVID-19 response initiatives including:
•Providing weekly lunches for front-line healthcare workers prepared by college culinary arts students and faculty chefs
•Delivering produce and food items from the college’s Food Innovation Center, collaborators and the culinary arts program to area non-profit agencies
•Supporting the emergency response and relief efforts of area first responders and hospitals through the manufacture and donation of personal protection equipment
“Community is a part of our name and we are proud to continue to support the Kalamazoo region through the amazing efforts of our faculty members, staff and students,†said college President L. Marshall Washington, Ph.D.†More information about the college and its programs is available at
