Academic Honors

Kalamazoo Valley Community College recognizes excellence in scholastic achievement each semester by the awarding of Academic Honors.

Qualification for receiving honor

Initially, a student must have completed a minimum of 12 credit hours with an overall grade-point average of 3.5
Thereafter, a minimum of six credit hours in a semester and an earned semester grade-point average of at least a 3.5 is required.
All course work must be at the 100 level or above

Classes using the credit/no credit grading system, audited, and withdrawn courses are not counted in the calculation and are not used to determine the minimum six required credits for eligibility.
Repeated courses excluded for the semester will be calculated with the original grade. Students who receive an incomplete for the semester are not eligible until the incomplete course has been graded.

Students awarded academic honors will receive a letter in the mail within a week after the end of the semester.
Academic Honors will also be noted on a student’s unofficial transcript each semester the award is earned.
An electronic list of students receiving honor for a semester will be made available on this webpage within one week after grades post. It will remain posted until the recipient list is updated the following year.

Q: Does the 3.5 GPA requirement for academic honors apply to the current semester or overall?

A: Initially, a student’s overall GPA is considered. Thereafter, the current semester GPA is used.

Q: How many credits must I be carrying to be eligible?

A: After meeting the minimum requirement of 12 credits with an overall 3.5 GPA, a student must complete a minimum of 6 credit hours in a semester.

Q: Do the classes I take need to be in my major for me to be considered for academic honors?

A: No

Q: Must I apply to be considered for academic honors?

A: No. Academic honors will automatically be applied to your record.
