Corequisites
What Are Corequisites?
Corequisites are classes that must be taken together. There are two types of corequisites offered.
- Support classes designed to help you be successful in college-level English and math courses. These courses are taught by the same instructor and are typically offered back-to-back. Students must make sure they select specific paired sections of these courses when making registration changes.
- Paired classes designed to be taken together as part of a specific program of study. These courses may be taught by different instructors and meet on different days and times. Students must select any section of each of the paired courses when making registration changes.
How do I know what sections to take?
If you are unsure about what classes to take, consult with a counselor or advisor in Student Development Services.
- For support classes in English and math, first determine which classes to take based on your placement level (advisors and counselors can help with this). Then view the list of paired sections for each set of courses by choosing the semester from the corequisite links menu on this page.
- For paired classes in a specific program of study, you can consult with your instructors or view the corequisite requirements from course descriptions found in our catalog. As long as you select a section of each of the corequisites identified, you will satisfy the requirement.
Registration, Drops, and Withdrawals
Students making registration changes that involve corequisites must perform the same action for BOTH courses. If students choose to drop or withdraw from one of these courses, they must do so from both. Students should consult with their instructor before withdrawing from a class. More information about refunds and withdrawals may be found here.
- For support classes in English and math, specific sections of these courses (identified by a 5-digit CRN) are paired together and students must register for both of them at the same time. If both CRNs of the corequisite pair are not selected at registration, students will encounter an error message. See the screenshot below for an overview of how to enter multiple CRNs at registration before submitting to avoid errors.
