Step 1: Complete the free, online admissions application at kvcc.edu/apply.
Step 2: Submit all required documents in support of your form I-20 application. See details below.

If your application AND paperwork have not been submitted by the dates above, you will need to be deferred to the next semester.
Terminated students are accepted on a case-by-case basis. The Student Development Services office reserves the right to contact the institution you were terminated at to determine the circumstances surrounding your termination.
Documents
Upload your documents to the International Admissions Portal. After you have been admitted, you will receive an email with a link to the portal. Documents to upload include:
- Passport photo page
- Proof of English Proficiency. Any one of the following will be accepted:
- TOEFL - 70 internet based, 500 paper test
- IELTS - 6.0
- Duolingo - 95
- Beginning with Fall 2024 enrollment, all F-1 applicants regardless of country of origin are required to submit official test scores from one of the three services listed above. Course grades, diplomas, transcripts or scores from unapproved language tests will no longer be accepted.
- Bank Statement
- Must be dated within the last 30 days
- Must be in the name of the person who is providing the financial support
- Must be in English or accompanied by an English translation
- Must possess an official bank stamp
- Must be signed by a bank official
- Must verify at least $23,000 USD
- Funds must be available for immediate withdrawal. As such, mutual funds, IRAs or other investment accounts do not qualify. Checking or savings accounts only.
- Affidavit of Financial Resources
- Must be completed by the student and all financial sponsors

Visa Information
- Receive your I-20 electronically from Kalamazoo Valley. This will take 7-10 business days after we have received all your documents. Be sure to sign it and keep it somewhere safe.
- Pay the SEVIS fee of $350. This can be done at https://fmjfee.com/i901fee/index.html.
- Arrange for your F-1 visa interview at your nearest U.S. embassy. When it is time for your appointment, it is recommended to take the following documents to the interview:
- SEVIS fee receipt
- I-20
- KVCC Admissions Letter
- Educational records/transcripts
- Bank Statement
- Passport
- Notify the ISS office of your visa results. If you are denied, you are permitted to arrange another interview and try again.
Preparing for Kalamazoo Valley
The following steps should be followed after you have been accepted, but before you arrive in the United States.
- Schedule travel plans to the U.S.
- If you have earned post-secondary credits from your home country, submit your transcript for evaluation to one of our partner foreign transcript evaluation services. It is possible you can earn credit for those courses.
- Make a virtual appointment with our Registration department to set up your MyValley account. This step can also be completed after your arrival to the United States. MyValley accounts are not accessible in many foreign countries and are not needed to complete your application or to receive an I-20.
- Secure housing. A list of student-friendly, local housing options is available at HOUSING.
The following steps should be followed after you arrive in the United States but before you register for classes.
- Attend the mandatory New Student Orientation. More details, including date, will be share in the Welcome Letter that is sent with your I-20.
- Meet with one of our academic advisors to help you select your classes. To set up an appointment, call 269-488-4040 or visit the Student Development Services office (room 9300) at the Texas Township Campus.
- Review your Guided Self Placement recommendations. An advisor can also help provide a more informed course recommendation for you. In some cases, your advisor may encourage you to take a traditional placement test to provide additional insight and increase your confidence to support your course selection. You can also elect to do a placement test if you'd like to test into a more advanced course, such as Calculus.
