2023 Form 1098-T may be viewed online by logging into your MyValley account at www.kvcc.edu and then choosing "My 1098-T" under the My Links section. Enter 2023 for the tax year and press enter to view your form. Printed copies of Form 1098-T will be mailed no later than Jan. 31 to your address on file with Kalamazoo Valley Community College. If you did not have any activity with Kalamazoo Valley in 2023 or your scholarships and grants were more than your payments, you may not have a 1098-T for 2023. Please see the 1098-T FAQ documentation on the Kalamazoo Valley website for more information.

Register Now for Winter 2024 Late-Starting Classes
Winter semester is underway at Kalamazoo Valley, but there's still time to register. Second half-semester classes begin Feb. 27. A variety of classes are available. Click here to view course offerings and click here to register. Important dates for dropping and adding classes include:
  • Last day to add (second 12-week classes) is TODAY, Jan. 29.
  • Last day to drop for a refund (second 12-week classes) is Feb. 1.
  • Last day to add (second half-semester classes) is March 4.

Student Development Services now offers free food and personal hygiene items to students. If you missed this week's Valley Food Share or just need some things to get through the day, stop by Room 9300 at the Texas Township Campus or Room 109 at Anna Whitten Hall in downtown Kalamazoo. Free books from the kalamazoo public library bookmobile. A mobile library event. Monday, January 29, 1 to 3 pm at the Texas township campus, flagpole entrance parking lot. Pick up your free copy of new York times bestselling author RF Kuang’s “yellowface.” The new reading together book a community reading program sponsored by the kalamazoo public library (KPL). Yellowface takes on questions of diversity, racism, and cultural appropriation not only in the publishing industry but the persistent erasure of Asian-american voices and history by western white society.

Donate Warm Clothing Feb. 1 - 15
Kalamazoo Valley's Honors Program is conducting a warm clothing collection drive to benefit United for the Unsheltered of Kalamazoo. All community members are invited to donate new or gently used socks, boots, coats, scarves, hats, gloves, blankets, pants, shirts and hand warmers for the unsheltered. The drive takes place Feb. 1 - 15. Collection bins will be located across the Texas Township Campus. more

CNM to Host February Black Artists Exhibit
In collaboration with community partners, Kalamazoo Valley Community College's Center for New Media will host an exhibition of works by local Black artists in February 2024. The exhibition is part of the college's celebration of Black History Month. Artwork will be exhibited in the Center for New Media and its Arcus Gallery throughout the month of February. The exhibit's opening will coincide with the city of Kalamazoo's Feb. 2 Art Hop. more

Scholarships Available for Students to be Mascot
Want to be Kal, the Kalamazoo Valley mascot? Apply now for the Kalamazoo Valley Mascot Scholarship. Up to two students will be awarded a scholarship in the amount of $1,200 per semester when agreeing to represent Kalamazoo Valley Community College at on-and-off campus events. Students will share the responsibility during the fall and winter semesters with the possibility for additional scholarship funds for the summer semester. Appearances include: community festivals, local K-12 school events, campus athletic games and student engagement activities on any of the college's campuses.
Requirements:
  • Be actively enrolled in at least six credit hours
  • Submit an application at www.kvcc.edu/finaid and tryout in front of a small committee
  • Attend mascot training
  • Do not disclose their identity until indicated by college administration

Valley Hosts Celebration of the Arts Feb. 27 for Black History Month
Join Kalamazoo Valley Community College at a special program, "African Americans and the Arts," on Tuesday, Feb. 27, from 3 to 5 p.m. in Room 4240 at the Texas Township campus, in observance of the national theme for Black History Month 2024. The event will feature performances of local African American actors, artists, musicians and provide a shared connection to the rich African American cultural heritage in Kalamazoo.

Welcome New Head Softball Coach Lisa Karau

Kalamazoo Valley Community College has named Lisa Karau as the new head softball coach, replacing Emily VanFleet. She started Dec. 5. Karau has played softball at the high school, community college and university levels. Out of high school, she was recruited to play softball at Ellsworth Community College in Iowa Falls, Iowa. After a year at Ellsworth, she transferred and played at the University of Wisconsin-Platteville for three additional years, where she earned a degree in physical education as a major and health education as a minor. She has coached in numerous capacities in the K-12 setting in Wisconsin and Michigan.

Exhibit About Acclaimed Author Bonnie Jo Campbell Opened Jan. 20

Award-winning local author Bonnie Jo Campbell brings her history, as well as many personal items from her writing world, to the Kalamazoo Valley Museum in a mini-exhibit that showcases "What It Means to Be a Hometown Writer." The exhibit features photos, awards, souvenirs from her travels, personal items from her writing world and an extended video interview with Campbell, all to showcase her work and inspirations for writing. It ends June 30. Admission is free to the exhibit and the museum.

165-Year History of Kalamazoo Regional Psychiatric Hospital Explored

Did you know that Michigan's longest-operating mental hospital is in Kalamazoo? Learn the fascinating history of the Kalamazoo Regional Psychiatric Hospital at a new exhibit at the Kalamazoo Valley Museum, on display from Feb. 3, 2024 through Jan. 19, 2025. "Kalamazoo State Hospital: 165 Years of Psychiatric Care" examines the history of its patients, employees and buildings on its Oakland Drive campus. The free exhibit features a range of items, from life-size versions of historical photos to patient artwork and original furniture, such as rocking and dining-room chairs, and recreations of patient and employee sleeping quarters; at one time, employees were required to sleep at the hospital.

Interactive Exhibit Illuminating the Wonders of Skin Opens Feb. 10
Explore the shape-shifting, color-changing and adaptable nature of skin and the technological innovations it inspires in the exhibit "Skin: Living Armor, Evolving Identity," available from Feb. 10, 2024 through June 2, 2024 at the Kalamazoo Valley Museum. The free exhibit aims to inspire wonder and curiosity about this uniquely complex organ, illustrate the incredibly adaptive properties of skin across all organisms, and spark dialogue and reflection about skin's role in shaping human culture and identity. Expect a range of collections and engaging interactive experiences.

Museum's Next Adult Discovery Series and Retro Caf� is Feb. 13

Join the Kalamazoo Valley Museum for its next monthly Adult Discovery Series and Retro Cafe. It starts at 2 p.m. and ends at 4 p.m. Guests on Feb. 13 will enjoy engaging cosmic chemistry demonstrations. It includes a $3 presenter-led planetarium experience, and concludes with light refreshments. Pre-registration is required at kalamazoomuseum.org or 269.373.7990.
