Nov. 11, 2024
Greetings students!
When we express gratitude and appreciation, our brains release specific, marvelous chemicals. These chemicals make us feel good from the inside out because they are associated with feelings of hope, peace and contentment - in short, happiness.
During this season of thankfulness, I want to share my gratitude for you.
We all know that you have many college options. I am so pleased that you made the decision to join us here. Thank you! It is our great hope that you will continue to learn, grow and thrive with us here and that you will have a strong finish to the fall semester.
Again, thank you for selecting your favorite community college - Kalamazoo Valley Community College!
Sincerely,
L. Marshall Washington, Ph.D.
President

Follow all stop signs on campus and yield to pedestrians in crosswalks. Remember that Public Safety can enforce traffic laws on any of our campus roads. Drive safely.

Author Robin Wall Kimmerer Lectures Drew Hundreds
Thank you to the more than 800 people who attended New York Times bestselling author Robin Wall Kimmerer's two lectures in Dale B. Lake Auditorium at the Texas Township Campus of Kalamazoo Valley Community College on Nov. 6! In between the two lectures, Kimmerer and invited guests enjoyed a special lunch of Native American dishes prepared by Chef Sam Anglin, of the Saginaw Chippewa Indian Tribe. We thank the Visiting Writers series, Artists' Forum, Kalamazoo Valley Museum, Kalamazoo Valley Libraries, Food Innovation Center and the Office of Diversity and Inclusion, as well as the Marketing, Event Services and Media Services departments, for their contributions to this successful program. Kimmerer, a botanist and professor of environmental biology who is an enrolled member of the Citizen Potawatomi Nation, urged us to give to our land, not just take. The concept is central to her book, "Braiding Sweetgrass: Indigenous Wisdom, Scientific Knowledge and the Teachings of Plants." Click here for more photos from Kimmerer's campus visit.
