MISSION STATEMENT
Kalamazoo Valley Community College creates innovative and equitable
opportunities that empower all to learn, grow and thrive.

April 1, 2024

Greetings College Community,

Together with over 900 other community colleges across the country, Kalamazoo Valley will celebrate Community College Month during April. This monthlong campaign is an opportunity to demonstrate not only that community colleges should be the first choice of many college-bound students, but also why community colleges are first-class institutions that are vital to our local and state economies.

Community colleges are respected collaborators, leaders and partners, creating innovative and equitable opportunities to prepare learners for existing and emerging careers. For more than 58 years, Kalamazoo Valley has been at the forefront of change and at the workforce and economic development table - collaborating with local, regional and state partners, creating innovative educational and training programs that fuel the economy.

I am proud of the impact that our staff and faculty make on the lives of our students and their families. More than 300,000 students have enrolled at the college since 1966 and many of our graduates stay in the area after degree completion and help to make our region prosperous and growing!

Kalamazoo Valley Community College employees are among the most dedicated individuals in higher education. You have helped to make the success of our students possible. I admire your unwavering commitment to the college mission.

Therefore, during this month of celebration, I celebrate you and thank you for making Kalamazoo Valley a great place for every student, employee and guest to learn, grow and thrive!

With gratitude,

L. Marshall Washington, Ph.D.
President

Advisor Needed - Global Student Union
We are currently seeking a dedicated and passionate staff or faculty member to serve as the advisor for our Global Student Union club. The advisor's responsibilities include providing guidance, facilitating club activities and promoting an inclusive atmosphere for students to connect and share their cultural interests. This unique opportunity allows you to play a vital role in fostering cultural diversity, international understanding and student engagement on our campus. Examples of previous outings include art shows, movie showings at local theaters, restaurants, Revel and Roll, Lake Michigan, Haunted Houses, etc. If you are interested in this role, please email Miranda McDowell at mmcdowell@kvcc.edu

Employees Should Verify Service Credit
All employees, especially those close to retirement or getting ready to retire, should check their years of service in miAccount. For security reasons, members will use MiLogin to access miAccount. It is important that members verify that their service credit is correct, and that they will have enough service credit by their planned retirement effective date.

Employers can only make adjustments that will affect a member's active service credit before the member's retirement effective date.

If adjustments are needed to an employee's service credit, refer to the Reporting Instruction Manual (RIM) sections 7.05.07: Adjusting DTL2 records - overview and 7.05.08: Adjusting wages or hours on a DTL2 record.

Kalamazoo Valley Giving Week is April 8 - 12
Day of Giving has been expanded to Giving Week! Help the Foundation raise $10,000 to help remove our students' financial roadblocks during the week of April 8.

As student needs continue to rise, the critical funds provided by philanthropic giving are crucial. We need donations to help students with the extra costs of books, supplies, transportation, childcare and more. Your incredible work and caring culture excite our students to come to Kalamazoo Valley; giving a gift can empower them to stay and complete their studies.

During Giving Week, Foundation representatives will be available to receive donations given by cash or check. You can also give via payroll deduction (an online form is available in the HR section of the Employee Portal) or you can visit kvcc.edu/foundation to give with credit card online.

We'll be staffing tables to answer questions and to accept donations from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. on Monday and Thursday at the Texas Township Campus and on Wednesday at the Culinary and Allied Health Building. We'll be visiting the Groves on Tuesday and Anna Whitten Hall and the Food Innovation Center on Thursday.

Thank you! Your gifts mean the world to our students.
