Early/Middle College Summer Camps Return to Kalamazoo Valley

Do you know of any bright and talented middle schoolers who are looking for new, fun and creative experiences to enrich their summer? If so, then Kalamazoo Valley Community College's Early/Middle College Summer Camps offer the perfect opportunity to intrigue their curiosity. Graphic design, culinary arts, literature and science are just some of the many fields explored during these exciting camp experiences. Campers can participate in various activities such as building and flying their own drones, creating animation, painting dimensional art, learning about cultivation, and more.

The Early/Middle College camps provide middle schoolers in the 6th, 7th and 8th grades (2022-2023 academic year) with opportunities to utilize their own creativity in numerous ways while gaining knowledge about career paths. Camps include:

Explore Your Future Career Camp: Campers will visit all four Kalamazoo Valley campuses while learning about careers that complement various academic degrees. Camp goers will explore math and science at the Kalamazoo Valley Museum as well as create digital art at the Center for New Media. Participants will also engage with industrial trades at the Groves Campus and will participate in other types of interactive activities at the Texas Township Campus. At the Food Innovation Center, participants will learn about horticulture and will walk to the Marilyn J. Schlack Culinary and Allied Health Building where they will craft meals inside a professional kitchen.

1000 Words: The Art of Story Camp: This camp gives participants the opportunity to learn how illustration and text complement each other to tell stories. Campers will learn picture reading as well as how to gain storytelling inspiration with images.

Stencil Me In Camp: Campers will learn how to use digital media tools to convert painted portraits into colorfully crafted digital art.

Stop Motion and Sound Design Camp: This camp teaches the process of abstractly creating stop motion animation and explores the use of design elements used in LEGO.

Urban Farm Explorers Camp: This camp provides camp goers with an outdoor experience where they will be able to tune into nature while learning about how food is grown and cultivated.

Art Around Town Camp: This camp provides an afternoon of artistic enrichment with crafting two- and three-dimensional cityscape art pieces.

Drone Camp: This camp will offer campers the opportunity to build and fly their very own drones. All materials needed, including safety glasses and tools, will be provided.

During all-day camps, participants will be provided with breakfast, lunch, snacks and water. During half-day camps, participants will be offered mid-morning or afternoon snacks along with water throughout the day. Costs of materials used for activities are included within the registration fees.
