Kalamazoo Valley to Host Law Enforcement Career Fair Sept. 8

Students and community members interested in a career in law enforcement are invited to attend the Kalamazoo Valley Law Enforcement Training Center Career Fair on Thursday, Sept. 8 from 10 a.m. - 12 p.m. at the college's Groves Campus located at 7107 Elm Valley Dr., Kalamazoo. Thirteen police agencies will be on hand to meet with attendees and discuss job opportunities.

The following police agencies are expected to attend the Sept. 8 Career Fair:

  • St. Joseph Department of Public Safety
  • Wyoming Police Department
  • Three Oaks Police Department
  • Michigan State Police
  • Kalamazoo Department of Public Safety
  • Lansing Police Department
  • Traverse City Police Department
  • Benton Harbor Police Department
  • Calhoun County Police Department
  • Kalamazoo County Sheriff's Office
  • Walker Police Department
  • Cass County Sheriff's Office
  • Ottawa County Police Department

There is currently a state-wide shortage of certified and qualified police officers. The Michigan Commission of Law Enforcement Standards (MCOLES) has more than 300 job postings on its web page from police agencies across the state.

Director of Kalamazoo Valley's Law Enforcement Training Center Victor Ledbetter is encouraging anyone thinking about a career in law enforcement to attend.

"There isn't a more noble profession than dedicating your life to the service of others," Ledbetter said. "Be the narrative change you'd like to see in the profession, by changing the profession from the inside out."
