PTK Presents Kalamazoo Loaves and Fishes with Donations from Aug. 11 Charity Walk
Kalamazoo Valley's chapter of Phi Theta Kappa, the international honor society of the two-year college (PTK), presented Kalamazoo Loaves and Fishes with a check of over $1,000 in donations. The proceeds for the donation were gathered from the Aug. 11 Inaugural PTK Charity Walk that the group conducted at the end of the summer semester.
The transfer of funds was presented by the chapter's former president, Khadijah Kabbani, and former vice president, Megan Smith. Both led the planning of the charity walk event and recently completed serving their terms at the end of the 2021 - 2022 academic year. Kalamazoo Loaves and Fishes' Development and Communications Coordinator, Erin Lowe, expressed the organization's gratitude for the donation.
"We're really honored to have partnerships with student groups and local community groups," said Lowe. "This donation will go toward purchasing food for the community. We're expected to spend over $1 million on food in the next coming year, so gifts like this really go a long way in making that happen."
Kalamazoo Loaves and Fishes services the community with free food programs and is also a partner of the college's Valley Food Share initiative, which was created in 2019 to address the immediate food needs of Kalamazoo Valley students. Valley Food Share provides free distributions of locally sourced food which incorporates goods provided through Kalamazoo Valley's Food Innovation Center and also includes food donated through Kalamazoo Loaves and Fishes.
