CNM Design Crew Course Continues to Excel Careers

When Center for New Media Design Crew students graduate and enter the workforce, they come equipped with hands-on experience and applied knowledge to help them excel in their careers. ANM 282 Design Crew, an interactive merit-based capstone experience course, offers graphic design students the opportunity to apply their skills in real-world projects while working with the college, community and local organizations.

During the Winter 2022 semester, Design Crew students submitted artwork proposals for Southwest Michigan's Big Brothers Big Sisters' (BBBS) Fall 2022 recruitment campaign. This opportunity provided students with experiences to expand their resumes and enjoy creative, hands-on work in their field of study.

Upon working with the Design Crew, BBBS chose an artwork proposal submitted by May 2022 graduate Erica Angelo, which was used for the "In the Game: Level Up the Next Generation" event on Sept. 26.

"I have always wanted a degree in graphic design," explained Angelo. "I really enjoyed my classes at the Center for New Media, particularly the ones taught by Mark DeYoung. Design Crew was cool because we had a special lab to work out of, which made the class feel more like a club. It was a great place to work and gather as students and creatives. I thoroughly enjoyed my time at Kalamazoo Valley, and hope others do for years to come."

After degree completion and graduation this year, Angelo has since continued to work with the BBBS organization as a graphic design and marketing intern.
