CNM Spotlight: Kenjji Jumanne-Marshall

The November 17 Spotlight Series for Studio Arts, Applied Arts and Media Technology Students features guest artist Kenjji Jumanne-Marshall. He will speak to students from 11:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. in Room 65 at the Center for New Media.

Kenjji is one of Black comics pioneer artists. After publishing WitchDoctor in '99 and as a co-founder of GRIOT comics he followed Detroit self-publishers like Urban Style Comics into their own lane in indie comics.

Kenjji's offering would be the first horror comic in the mix of Black superheroes. He is a freelance artist - more specifically he draws comics, caricatures, and cartoons.

He grew up in Detroit's Rosedale Park and cites Hip Hop and Detroit music culture as primary influences. His father owned a video store which sparked an early appetite for visual storytelling and groomed his talent.

His love for the Motor City goes back to an era when it was called GeekTown. He is proud to be a geek.
