PTK Donates Hats, Scarves and Mittens
Kalamazoo Valley Community College's chapter of Phi Theta Kappa (PTK), the international honor society for two-year colleges, recently completed a donation drive to collect hats, mittens and scarves for Kalamazoo Public School students. The drive concluded on Dec. 1 and collected over 264 items for students in need.
On Dec. 6, Kalamazoo Valley's PTK Chapter President, Kayleigh Overhuel, as well as chapter member Monica Clemente, met with Kalamazoo Public School's Basic Needs Coordinator, Sara Ware, to donate the items collected through the drive.
Last month, chapter members met at the Texas Township Campus to craft snowman themed donation collection bins which were placed at multiple campuses and community locations. The bins remained available for two weeks and all members of the community were encouraged to donate new or lightly used items.
"I greatly appreciate those who donated items to keep local school children warm this winter," said Overhuel. "I'm looking forward to working on future projects with Sara Ware, Kalamazoo Public School's basic needs coordinator. I hope with these contributions and donations, younger students can continue their educational growth to one day become Kalamazoo Valley Cougars and support their communities as well."
PTK chapters often plan projects to enrich the lives of their colleges and communities. Through their efforts and teamwork, they are able to create opportunities for engagement that create unified approaches to addressing matters of importance. These opportunities also provide members with leadership skills and quality teamwork experiences.
