May 11 PTK Charity Walk to Raise Donations for Kalamazoo Loaves and Fishes
Kalamazoo Valley Community College's chapter of Phi Theta Kappa (PTK), the international honor society for two-year colleges, is hosting its second annual Charity Walk to collect donations for Kalamazoo Loaves and Fishes. The May 11 event will be held at the Texas Township Campus from 4 - 5 p.m. All college employees, students and community members are welcome to participate and are encouraged to invite their friends and family to join. Participants who register by April 30 will receive a commemorative T-shirt and all funds raised will be donated directly to Kalamazoo Loaves and Fishes. Registration is $20 and donors may choose to contribute additional funds when registering.
Kalamazoo Loaves and Fishes offers valuable community enrichment through their free food programs and is also a partner of the college's Valley Food Share initiative. Launched in 2019, Valley Food Share offers free distributions of locally sourced goods from Kalamazoo Valley's Food Innovation Center and also includes food donated through the Loaves and Fishes organization.
Last year, the college's PTK chapter was able to raise more than $1,000 in donations for Kalamazoo Loaves and Fishes at their inaugural walk on Aug. 11. This year, the student organization seeks to raise $4,000 and hopes to expand the gathering into a larger event by encouraging participation from throughout the community.
