Legislators and Local Representatives Meet at Kalamazoo Valley

Updates about Kalamazoo Valley including another funding appeal for the college's $20 million state of Michigan Capital Outlay Grant for the construction of new facilities for the auto program and enhancements for other professional trades teaching and learning spaces were on the agenda earlier today when college leaders met with legislative representatives and their aides.

"This project has been Kalamazoo Valley's #1 request for several years," said President L. Marshall Washington, Ph.D. "I may be optimistic, I'm saying 'when' not 'if' that request is approved, the college will be ready to secure a local monetary match."

According to Provost and Vice President for Instruction and Student Services Paige Eagan, Ph.D., "These improvements have long been necessary, and we want to move forward with our plans. These plans require financial support from the state if we are to be successful."

During the meeting, legislators also received updates about campus safety and the new Cosmetology and Barbering Institute.

State Sen. Sean McCann, State Rep. Julie Rogers, and State Rep. Christine Morse delivered a proclamation, signed by Gov. Gretchen Whitmer and the Michigan delegation recognizing Kalamazoo Valley's celebration of Community College Month.
