Embark On Imaginary Voyages With Museum's New Exhibit

'Explore Your World' delves into sea, land and space exploration

Want a free staycation? Take free trips through land, sea and space without ever leaving Michigan, thanks to an exciting, new exhibit starting Saturday, July 15 at the Kalamazoo Valley Museum. "Explore Your World" opens our eyes to the role of mapping and navigation in everyday life using fun activity stations.

Visitors will use different methods of navigation to find their way through shipwrecks, escape a virtual building and pilot a simulated underwater exploration vehicle. Guests can take on the challenge of a giant game of Battleship using coordinates, or operate a sonar scanner to map themselves and their friends.

By tracking the movement of a spilled cargo container of rubber ducks, museum-goers will even be able to explore patterns in global ocean currents through real-life computer modeling. Using the oldest navigational techniques known to humankind, patrons will also learn to use the stars to find their way across both land and ocean, just as our ancestors did thousands of years ago.

Layers of data are recorded within maps to help visualize the world and guide how we interact with it. "Explore Your World" uses cutting-edge technologies and experiences that are relevant, inspiring and effective in sharing STEM skills and knowledge across the globe. The exhibit is suitable for people of all ages. The exhibit runs through Oct. 15.

The exhibition was created by Scitech in Perth, Australia, and produced by Imagine Exhibitions Inc.
