Children enjoy Chemistry Day at the KVM.

For the 37th year, the public is invited to participate in Chemistry Day at the Kalamazoo Valley Museum. The museum and the Kalamazoo Section of the American Chemical Society (ACS) present "Health and Medicine: The Healing Power of Chemistry" on Saturday, Oct. 14, from noon to 4 p.m. The program is free. Advance registration is not required.

Exciting hands-on experiments and demonstrations will educate and entertain learners of all ages and abilities.

The event aims to increase awareness of the role of chemistry in everyday life, promote a positive image of chemistry, and utilize the museum's exhibits and resources to provide unique learning experiences for members of the community.

The communitywide collaboration includes chemistry enthusiasts from the Kalamazoo Section of the ACS, Kalamazoo Valley Community College, Western Michigan University, Kalamazoo College, Pfizer, Kalsec, Perrigo and Stryker. You won't want to miss this year's celebration of chemistry!

The Kalamazoo Valley Museum is an ideal place to showcase this year's National Chemistry Week topic of "Health and Medicine," as the Kalamazoo Direct to You History Gallery is home to the ACS National Historic Chemical Landmark plaque for The Upjohn Company's pioneering work in steroid medicines. More information about the landmark designation can be found at acs.org/education/whatischemistry/landmarks/upjohn-steroid-medicines.html.

Admission is free to both the event and to the museum, which is located at 230 N. Rose St. in downtown Kalamazoo. Visit kalamazoomuseum.org for more details. The museum is operated by Kalamazoo Valley Community College and is governed by its Board of Trustees.
