PTK Members Receive Coca-Cola Leaders of Promise Scholarship
KALAMAZOO, Mich - Three of Kalamazoo Valley Community College's Phi Theta Kappa (PTK) chapter members were recently awarded $1,000 each in funds from Coca-Cola's Leaders of Promise Scholarship Program. PTK is the international honor society for two-year colleges. Among the college's awarded PTK members are:
- Dusti Morton, Administrative Assistant
- Janice Swager, Nursing
- Heather Weinert, General Studies
"Receiving the Coca-Cola Leaders of Promise Scholarship is not just a recognition of my achievements; it's a testament to the power of dreams, hard work and unwavering determination," Weinert explained. "It's not just financial support, it's a vote of confidence that has ignited the fire in me to lead, serve and make a difference."
The Coca-Cola Leaders of Promise Scholarship Program annually awards more than 200 PTK members across the country. The funds help to reduce costs associated with pursuing an associate degree and are awarded based on scholastic achievement, community service experience and leadership potential.
"Congratulations to these distinguished and deserving students," said L. Marshall Washington, Ph.D., president of Kalamazoo Valley Community College. "I applaud their dedication to their education and commitment to academic excellence."
PTK provides members with access to exclusive scholarships and professional development opportunities. The student organization has more than 3.8 million members around the world with nearly 1,300 chapters in 11 countries.
"I am extremely grateful to have received this scholarship from Coca-Cola," Swager said. "These additional funds have helped with my book and uniform expenses this semester for the nursing program."
The college's PTK chapter offers opportunities for excelling academically and professionally while in pursuit of higher education. The student organization often plans community service projects in coordination with the college. These activities provide members with a variety of hands-on learning experiences.
"Dusti, Janice and Heather have shown unwavering commitment to their educational journey and are very deserving recipients of the scholarship," said Alison Nord, Kalamazoo Valley accounting instructor and PTK chapter advisor. "We are very proud of them."
