Applications Being Accepted for January 2024 Wind Turbine Technician Academy
Interested in joining one of the fastest growing career fields in the United States? Apply now to be part of the next Wind Turbine Technician Academy at Kalamazoo valley Community College. The next academy begins Jan. 4, 2024.
Kalamazoo Valley Community College offers this course as a non-credit, full-time program allowing men and women the chance to be job ready in less than six months. Students attend Monday through Friday, eight hours each day for 24 weeks. Training is held at Kalamazoo Valley's Groves Campus.
The competency-based academy provides a fast track to jobs that are in demand and pay high wages. Focused on specific, hands-on competencies, the unique training model followed at the academy moves students from the classroom to the learning labs and into the field quickly.
Instructors provide complete instruction in the technologies used in a modern wind turbine. Students must bring these fundamental skills with them to the course:
- ability to work at height
- aptitude to learn mechanical and/or electrical concepts
- ability to follow instruction
- analytical skills
- ability to work effectively in small teams
- self-motivated/directed
- ability to apply fundamental algebra skills to plan work and solve work related problems
More than 96 percent of Wind Turbine Technician Academy alumni work in the wind industry, with the majority accepting offers for employment prior to graduation. Graduates work all across North America for leading companies including Airway Service, Avangrid, Broadwind Energy, Consumers Energy, Duke Energy Renewables, EDF Renewable Services, EDP Renewables, Fieldcore, Gemini Energy Services, General Electric, NextEra Energy Resources and Nordex.
