PTK Donates Hats, Mittens and Scarves to Parchment School District Students
Kalamazoo Valley Community College's chapter of Phi Theta Kappa (PTK), the international honor society for two-year colleges, recently completed a donation drive to collect hats, mittens and scarves for Parchment School District students ages K-12. The drive concluded Nov. 3 and initially collected 185 items. Additional collections received after the drive's conclusion increased the total to nearly 200 donations.
PTK chapter Co-President Christie White presented Sasha Hoyle, Parchment School District social services coordinator, with the donations on Monday, Nov. 14.
"The presentation went well," White said. "Sasha Hoyle expressed her gratitude to PTK for the collection, stating the high need, especially for middle and high school students."
Snowman themed collection bins were placed across each of the college's campuses from Oct. 23 - Nov. 3 and welcomed donations from throughout the college community. This is the chapter's second year organizing the collection. Last year, PTK collected 264 items for Kalamazoo Public School students.
Kalamazoo Valley's chapter of PTK often plans community service projects in coordination with chapter advisors and the college. The student organization offers members professional development and enrichment opportunities while in the pursuit of higher education.
