Become a Phlebotomist in Just 10 Weeks at Kalamazoo Valley

Looking for a career in health care? Kalamazoo Valley Community College, in partnership with Bronson Hospital, is offering its next Phlebotomy Technician Academy beginning in January. The ten-week, non-credit program is designed to get students directly into the medical field, earning relevant experience for a career in health care.

Phlebotomists are crucial members of many clinical teams - working in labs, hospitals, doctor's offices, medical surgery centers, nursing homes, and in many other settings. Students will learn to draw blood from patients and prepare it for diagnostic testing. They will receive training to work as phlebotomy technicians and work to become prepared to gain national certification through the American Society for Clinical Pathology.

The average annual salary for phlebotomists in Kalamazoo is $30,313. The U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics projects a 25% growth in phlebotomy jobs through 2026.

Classes are held at Kalamazoo Valley's Culinary and Allied Health Building in downtown Kalamazoo Tuesday-Thursday from 4:30 to 8:30 p.m. Clinical training runs the last three weeks of the academy between 7 a.m. and 4 p.m. at Bronson Hospital. Tuition is $1,400.
