Warm Clothing Drive Collects More than 200 Donations for the Unsheltered
Kalamazoo Valley Community College's Honors Program recently collected more than 200 clothing donations for United for the Unsheltered of Kalamazoo. Donation bins were located across the college's Texas Township Campus from Feb. 1 - 15. The drive collected a total of 204 items, including 29 coats/jackets, 50 hats, 17 pairs of gloves, 20 scarves, 14 pairs of pants, 24 tops, 33 pairs of socks, 13 blankets and four pairs of shoes.
"Thank you to everyone who generously donated to the Honors Program winter clothing drive for United for the Unsheltered," said Heather Weinert, Honors Program student president. "Your kindness and compassion have made a significant positive impact, providing warmth and comfort to those in need during these cold months. Your support is truly appreciated."
Kalamazoo Valley's Honors Program provides highly motivated students with thorough educational enrichment as well as mentorships and improved scholarship prospects at transfer institutions. The program's comprehensive design provides meaningful scholarly development as well as exclusive Honors Program courses and extracurricular activities.
"I'd like to extend a special thank you to Kevin Dockerty, the Honors Program director, whose ongoing support to students enables each of us to achieve our academic, professional and personal endeavors," Weinert said.
United for the Unsheltered provides Kalamazoo County's unsheltered population with meals, hygiene products, survival items and basic necessities. The organization strives to bring awareness to the unsheltered of Kalamazoo and hopes to inspire collective change within the community.
