Invasive Species Pull Scheduled for April 19
Sponsored by the Kalamazoo Valley Sustainability Committee
Friday, April 19 | 2 p.m. | Meet at the south end of the faculty parking lot
Volunteers will pull garlic mustard from the woods adjacent to the southeast side of the Texas Township Campus. Consider wearing long sleeves and pants and bring gloves and hats. All are welcome!
If you can join us, your efforts will help make our forest more sustainable. Let's support our sustainability efforts beyond this day and plant a tree for the future.
Globally, 2 - 5 billion trees are planted every year, but humans cut down 15 billion. Tree seedlings have a rough go of it. Invasive species like garlic mustard out-compete the tree seedlings for resources. Additionally, the garlic mustard emits chemicals that inhibit other seedlings from germinating.
