PTK Members Awarded All-Michigan Academic Team Acknowledgment
Three members of Kalamazoo Valley Community College's Phi Theta Kappa (PTK) chapter were recently named to the PTK All-Michigan Academic Team, one of whom was awarded a Coca-Cola Silver Scholarship and named to the Coca-Cola Academic Team. The chapter's winners attended an awards luncheon with Kalamazoo Valley President L. Marshall Washington, Ph.D. March 11 in Lansing, MI.
Recognized Kalamazoo Valley PTK members include:
- Abigayle Minger - Liberal Arts
- Dusti Morton - Administrative Assistant
- Heather Weinert - General Studies, Coca-Cola Academic Team Silver Scholar
Thirty-nine states participate in PTK's All-State Academic Team selection process. Nominees are chosen from throughout each state's participating colleges and are recognized for their scholarly achievement and merit. Winners are awarded medallions and are eligible to win Coca-Cola Academic Team recognition and scholarships.
Hosted by the Michigan Community College Association and member institutions of PTK, the All-Michigan Academic Team event honored distinguished college students from throughout the state.
"I am extremely grateful for being provided such a wonderful opportunity to become more involved in the Kalamazoo community and to show my younger siblings that hard work does not go unnoticed," Minger said. "I would not have made it this far if it wasn't for my family, my church community, the college's administration and the Early/Middle College counselors who have poured into my success."
Morton also expressed gratitude for receiving the acknowledgement.
"I am proud to represent PTK and Kalamazoo Valley as a member of the All-Michigan Academic Team," Morton said. "I am a non-traditional student who has always wanted to pursue a degree but did not have an opportunity to do so until Michigan Reconnect gave me much needed assistance. Having my hard work acknowledged in this way means so much to me."
Weinert, one of last year's Coca-Cola Leaders of Promise Scholarship recipients, received an additional scholarship in the amount of $1,250.
"Receiving the Coca-Cola Academic Team scholarship is a true honor, and I am filled with gratitude and excitement," said Weinert. "This scholarship will not only help me achieve my academic goals but also enables me to give back to my community and create positive change. I am thankful to Coca-Cola for their belief in my potential."
