Get Free Tuition this Fall with the Community College Guarantee

Many Kalamazoo Valley Community College students are eligible for free tuition this fall thanks to Michigan's new Community College Guarantee program and other existing scholarship opportunities. These funds are not loans, do not need to be repaid after college and eligibility is not tied to family income.

The free college funds are available to Kalamazoo Valley students from the class of 2023 and 2024 who enroll in classes for the Fall 2024 semester. To qualify, students must complete the FAFSA form and list "Kalamazoo Valley Community College" as the "first college of choice" on the form.

The Community College Guarantee includes:

  • In-district tuition, contact hours and mandatory fees.
  • An additional $1,000 bonus living expenses award for students eligible for a Federal Pell Grant.

To be eligible, students must:

  • Complete the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) and indicate Kalamazoo Valley Community College as first college of choice.
  • Be a Michigan resident since July 1 of the previous calendar year.
    • If you're a dependent student, your parent(s) must also be a Michigan resident since July 1 of the previous calendar year.
  • Graduate from a Michigan high school.
    • You're eligible if you earn a diploma or certificate of completion.
    • You're also eligible if you earned a high school equivalency certificate in 2023 or after.
  • Enroll in college.
    • Enrolled full time (12 credit hours at Kalamazoo Valley)
    • Enrolled within 15 months of your high school graduation.
      • Class of 2023 spring graduates: Must enroll by Fall 2024 semester.
      • Class of 2024 spring graduates: Must enroll by Fall 2025 semester.
      • If you graduated at a different time of year, and are concerned about initiating in time, contact Student Financial Services.

Fall semester at Kalamazoo Valley starts Sept. 4.
