Updates to the Loaner Laptop Program

Students who need a laptop for the fall semester are able to borrow one from the Kalamazoo Valley Libraries. Updated details about the program include:

Loan Period
Beginning with the Fall 2024 semesters, laptops are now checked out for two weeks at a time. Renewals are automatic for another two weeks, for a total of a four week loan period. There are no additional renewals. After four weeks, the student must return the laptop to the library.

If a student returns the laptop on time they may check out another one under the same guidelines, if the library has laptops available. All laptops are first come first serve.

Checkout date
Students can check out items starting the first day of their first class. This gives students the maximum amount of time with the laptop while they are in class. All students will be given their due date in an email from the library.

Disabling Software
Laptops are now considered overdue one day after the due date. Once the laptop is overdue, IT has the ability to disable the computer. IT will send a message to the laptop screen letting the user know before this happens. After the computer is disabled, students have three days to return the laptop or their Kalamazoo Valley account may be charged for a replacement cost. Students will not be eligible to borrow anything from the library for two weeks.
