Wind Turbine Technician Academy Leads to Success
Did you know that Kalamazoo Valley's Wind Turbine Technician Academy (WTTA) is one of the nation's leading industry program providers? The unique training model focuses on specific hands-on competencies to guide students from the classroom to learning labs. Upon graduation, many students receive job offers and are equipped to enter the in-demand workforce.
"While attending the Wind Turbine Technician Academy at Kalamazoo Valley Community College, I gained a multitude of essential skills required to be a successful and professional technician in the wind industry," said WTTA graduate Zachary Haynes.
Developed with input from industry leaders, the nationally accredited program requires students to attend full-time, eight hours per day Monday through Friday for 24 weeks. The curriculum offers career readiness within six-months and involves thorough applied competencies necessary for excelling in the rapidly growing industry.
"The knowledge and work experience taught during both field service and classroom instruction provided me with confidence, problem solving skills and familiarity when working in a wind turbine," Haynes said. "All of which I directly apply today to perform everyday tasks as a wind turbine technician."
Since graduating from the academy in June, Haynes has been employed with Power Grid Partners, a global green energy solutions provider based in Oregon, Ohio.
Over the years, the WTTA has attracted students from across the country and around the world. Graduates experience active careers and often travel internationally to accommodate employer needs.
Qualified wind turbine technicians are highly sought after employment prospects. An average of 96 percent of WTTA alumni are currently employed in the profession. Haynes says, "No matter the desired career path in this growing industry, Kalamazoo Valley is the best place to start."
