Black History Mobile Museum Comes to Campus Oct. 15
Experience the profound impact of Black music on American culture and social movements through rare artifacts and interactive displays when the Black History 101 Mobile Museum comes to Kalamazoo Valley Community College's Texas Township Campus on Tuesday, Oct. 15.
The free event features a keynote address, "Music of the Movement," from noon to 1 p.m. in TTC, Room 4240, delivered by Dr. Khalid el-Hakim, founder and CEO of the mobile museum. Registration is not required.
Then, from 10 a.m. through 3 p.m., guests can drop in anytime to peruse the displays. The event is open to the public; all are welcome. From jazz to hip-hop, discover how iconic Black artists have shaped popular culture and inspired change, while celebrating the resilience and contributions of Black people in the face of racial discrimination.
The artifacts include vinyl records, press photos, flyers, clothing items, contracts and other items from iconic artists who have shaped popular culture around the world.
