High School Art Contest Winners Announced
During the December Art Hop, The Kalamazoo Valley Community College Greater Kalamazoo High School Art and Design Competition Exhibit awarded eight awards to local high school artists in the greater Kalamazoo area.
Best of Show was awarded to Kalamazoo Central High School student, Grace Totten, for her piece "Remnant." She received a scholarship providing two semesters of tuition for the Studio Arts for Transfer program or any of the Applied Arts and Media Technology programs at Kalamazoo Valley Community College. Director's Choice was awarded to Education for the Arts high school student, Jada Shaw, for her piece "Don't Lick That." She received $250.
First place was awarded to Portage Northern student, Pinmanee Eiamtamai, for her piece "One Track Mind, One Track Heart." She received $300. Second place was awarded to Watervliet High School student, Zach Gruszczyk, for his piece "Beyond the Void." He received $200. Third place was awarded to Loy Norrix High School student, Elizabeth Bierlein, for her piece "Grandma." She received $100.
Education for the Arts student, Sophia Solberg, was awarded Honorable Mention for her piece, "Observation of Fleeting Moment." Centerville High School student, Jaida Hertlein, was awarded honorable mention for her piece, "The Body Remembers, Even When the Mind Doesn't." Compass High School student, Erika Bengelink, was awarded Honorable Mention for her piece "Graffiti." These three were given $50.
Didn't get a chance to see the art? All of the artwork will be on display in the Arcus and Center for New Media gallery spaces through January.
