Kalamazoo Valley Community College Commencement Kicks Off Dec. 15

Kalamazoo, Mich. - Kalamazoo Valley Community College is holding its Commencement ceremony on Sunday Dec. 15 at 2 p.m. at Western Michigan University's Miller Auditorium, located at 2200 Auditorium Drive in Kalamazoo.

More than 180 students, including those who graduated in August, are planning to participate. Board Chairperson Lucinda Stinson will speak along with psychology instructor Meredith Holland, Ph.D., and student Romello Phillips, who is graduating with an associate of arts in general studies.

"I chose to attend Kalamazoo Valley Community College because both of my parents started their journeys here," Phillips said. "My mother was a professor here who taught African-American Experience, U.S. History, Sociology and Contemporary Social Problems at Kalamazoo Valley Community College from 2003-2010. Along with my father being a psychology major, both of their scholastic abilities and experiences helped shape me into the student and man you see today."

Phillips said his time at Kalamazoo Valley Community College is a time in his life he will always remember.

"I think the most special thing overall that I will forever cherish was being able to go to school with my younger siblings. Being able to take some of the same courses along with my baby brother meant the world to me," Phillips said.

Phillips is a proud graduate with Phi Theta Kappa, the international honor society for two-year colleges. He plans to continue his education and eventually earn a doctorate degree in philosophy.

Guests without tickets may view the ceremony livestream via Public Media Network on PMN DISCOVER Channel 187. It will also stream online at publicmedianet.org as well as its Roku, Apple TV and Firestick apps.
