College Welcomes New Member to Board of Trustees

KALAMAZOO, Mich.- At its regularly scheduled board meeting, Tuesday, Jan. 14, Kalamazoo Valley Community College swore in four members of its Board of Trustees, including new trustee Dan Pontius, who was elected in November as well as reelected members Dawn DeLuca, Kathy Purnell and Sherry Thomas-Cloud.

Newly elected Pontius brings a wealth of experience and a deep connection to the college to his role as trustee. As the CEO of MRC Industries in Kalamazoo, he has demonstrated visionary leadership and a commitment to empowering individuals through meaningful opportunities. He holds a Master of Science in Management from Spring Arbor University, further reflecting his dedication to education and community impact.

"As former part-time instructor and active member of two advisory committees at Kalamazoo Valley, Dan has been a steadfast advocate for student success and program excellence. I look forward to him serving on the board," said Lucinda Stinson, board chairperson.

Kalamazoo Valley Community College President L. Marshall Washington, Ph.D., added, "Dan has a clear understanding of the changing landscape of higher education and will be an advocate for the college's mission to provide innovative and equitable opportunities for all to learn, grow and thrive."

Kalamazoo Valley Community College's Board of Trustees next meeting is Tuesday, March 11 at 7:30 a.m. in the Paul D. Jackson Boardroom on the college's Texas Township Campus, located at 6767 West O Ave., Kalamazoo, MI 49009. Pursuant to the Open Meetings Act, meetings are open to the public.
