Valley to Host Men's MCCAA Basketball Championship March 1

Cougars Rank No. 1 in Conference and No. 7 Nationally Among Division II Colleges

Kalamazoo Valley Community College is proud to announce that it is the host site for the Michigan Community College Athletic Association (MCCAA) Men's Basketball Championship on Saturday, March 1!

The college earned this honor due to the stellar performance of the men's basketball team during the 2024-2025 academic year.

The Cougars finished their season on Wednesday, Feb. 26 at Glen Oaks Community College as conference champs. They were victorious with a score of 103-98, closing with a record of 14-0 (an overall record of 27-1).

The public is invited to attend Saturday's championships. Play will begin at 3 p.m. in the main gym at the Texas Township Campus of Kalamazoo Valley Community College. Admission is free.

The Kalamazoo Valley men's basketball team ranks No. 1 in the MCCAA Western Conference, and No. 7 in the country among Division II community colleges.

Another point of pride for the Cougars this season is sophomore guard Joey Liedel reached the amazing and rare career college milestone of 1,000 points. Liedel achieved the feat Jan. 4 during a home game against Macomb Community College.

In addition to making it to the championships, Valley's men's basketball players have qualified for the Great Lakes District Tournament at Mott Community College in Flint, where they will play a semifinal game on March 6 at 6 p.m. against a to be determined opponent.

Should they win their district, they will earn a spot in the National Junior College Athletic Association's Division II National Championship Tournament in Danville, Illinois, scheduled for March 17 - 22. The last time the men's basketball team made an appearance in the National Tournament was in March 2011.
