Program Information

Basic EMT Health Careers applications will open each year on April 1 for FALL start, October 1 for WINTER start and February 1 for the SUMMER at https://p2.kvcc.edu/utilities/health_careers/.

This one or two semester, ten-credit program prepares the student to work in the out-of-hospital setting as an entry level Emergency Medical Technician. Emphasis is placed on mastery of CPR, simple pharmacology for common medical emergencies, patient assessment, bandaging and splinting, vehicle extrication, and emergency childbirth. All credits in this program apply directly toward the emergency medical services AAS degree programs.

Medical First Responder: Students who begin the EMT basic sequence with EMT 105 will be eligible for National Registry of EMTs Certification and Michigan Department of Health and Human Services Licensing as a Medical First Responder upon successful completion of EMT 105.

Matriculation Sequence: Students already licensed as a Medical First Responder should submit appropriate paperwork to the Prior Learning Assessment Office in order to obtain equivalent credit for EMT 105. These students may begin the EMT basic course sequence by enrolling in EMT 111.
