Corrections Officer Academy

Kalamazoo Valley Community College's Corrections Academy is a Michigan Sherriffs Coordinating and Training Council (MSCTC) approved, 160-hour certification program for correctional personnel supervising inmates in county jails. This 4-week program will focus on obtaining the skills necessary to maintain the safety and security of a correctional facility. Due to the limited space for each academy, candidate evaluations will be conducted to determine admittance to the program.

The annual starting salary for an entry level Corrections Officer is approximately $33,400. The maximum salary for an experienced Corrections Officer after five and a half years of satisfactory service is approximately $51,175.

The Corrections Officer Academy is accredited by the Michigan Sheriffs’ Coordinating and Training Council, an organization established in 2003 and dedicated to training, certification and professional development of Local Corrections Officers.

Graduates of the Kalamazoo Public Schools who are eligible to receive the Kalamazoo Promise can use scholarship their to attend the Corrections Academy.
