Math Center
Welcome! Drop-in math tutoring is available in-person and virtually to currently enrolled Kalamazoo Valley students during the Fall 2024 semester (September 4th - December 14th, 2024).
In-Person Tutoring Sessions
In-person drop-in tutoring sessions are available at the Texas Township Campus in the Learning Center, room 2220, and the Arcadia Commons Campus at the Anna Whitten Hall building in room 123.

Prior to your In-person Tutoring Session
- The student needs to provide the tutor with the following information: Kalamazoo Valley Student Identification Number (V00-01-2345), the course number (for example MATH 120), and the instructor's name.
- Prior to joining an in-person tutoring session, a student prepares the specific questions and materials that student would like to review with a tutor. That student shows these sources to the tutor at the beginning of the tutoring session.
What to expect from your In-Person Tutoring Session
- Tutors will assist students with homework questions and test preparations.
- Tutors expect students to be familiar with course resources and their Canvas page.
- Tutors will not assist with online tests, online quizzes, or hand-written assignments.
- Tutors expect that students have attended and will continue to attend Online, Blended, and in-person classes.
- Tutors' responsibilities are to answer questions about topics that have already been presented in the course. Tutors' responsibilities do not include teaching course content.
- Tutoring sessions are limited to 30 minutes. After 30 minutes, tutors rotate to assist other students.
- At the end of the semester, evaluations about tutoring sessions will be distributed via KVCC e-mail.

Sign in to MyValleyPrior to the Virtual Tutoring Session
- A student must download Zoom. There are two options. Zoom instructions or PDF instructions.
- Prior to joining a virtual tutoring session, a student prepares the specific questions and materials that student would like to review with a tutor. That student shows these materials after signing into the virtual tutoring session.
- The student needs to provide the tutor with the following information: Kalamazoo Valley Student Identification Number (V00-01-2345), the course number (for example MATH 120), and the instructor’s name.
Upon arrival to the Virtual Math Center
- When a student logs into Zoom, that student is placed in a waiting room until admitted by a tutor. While in the waiting room, the following message is displayed: Hello! Welcome to the Virtual Math Center. We are assisting another student at the moment, but we will be with you shortly. Thank you.
- Once the student leaves the waiting room, that student enters the Tutor Greeting Room. There, the tutor will ask that student to perform the following task:

- Click on the Chat icon and type as a message: first and last name, student Valley ID number, the math course number the student is enrolled in, and the instructor’s name for the class.
- Student is notified that the tutoring session will take place in a breakout session and that student will receive an invitation to join the breakout session.
- When the student receives an invitation to join the breakout session, the student should click join.
- Student is alerted by the host that the student might be alone at the Breakout session for a quick moment, but a tutor will be with that student shortly.

- Tutoring sessions may include any of the following Zoom features: file sharing, virtual whiteboard, a second screen, or screen sharing.
- At the end of the semester, evaluations about tutoring sessions will be distributed via KVCC e-mail.

Welcome to KVCC's Writing Center. Please have the following information handy:
- Valley I. D. number
