Request a Canvas App (LTI)

What are LTI tools?

LTI tools (sometimes known as “Canvas apps”, “third-party plugins”, or simply “LTIs”) refer to third-party software that has been installed in Canvas (such as Panopto, Pearson MyLab, and Respondus Lockdown Browser). LTIs add a variety of functions to Canvas courses, such as video, textbook access, plagiarism checking, collaborative assignments, virtual labs, and more.

What apps are available in Canvas?

Here you can find a list of already available LTIs with short descriptions of what they do. Faculty DO NOT need to seek approval to use these apps in their Canvas courses.

How do I request a new Canvas app?

Requests to add new LTIs to Canvas must go through the following approval process before they can be added by an administrator.

New requests should be submitted a full semester in advance. Additionally, we cannot process new requests two weeks before/after the start of a semester, as these are peak times for the Faculty Success Center and IT.

1 Step One

Check the LTI Request Status page first to see if your app has already been requested or approved. You may also find a similar app that meets your needs has already been installed in Canvas.

2 Step Two

Fill out the Canvas LTI Request Form. This document is completed by the faculty member requesting LTI, and must be reviewed and signed by their dean. Once signed (a digital signature is fine), the dean should email it to .

3 Step Three

The faculty member sends this Vendor Checklist to the app’s vendor to complete. Once completed, the vendor or the faculty member should email it to .

Optional: If you’re unsure what to say to the vendor, you are welcome to use the wording from this sample email.
